Feb 11, 2020 by Garima Mishra #Child Rights ,#Cause & Campaigns

Child labour is an issue which is overlooked like most of the other social issues. First of all it is important to clear the actual meaning of child labour.

In Simple words, child labour is nothing but any work that is mentally, physically, socially or morally exploitative to children or interferes with their education.

The no. of children engaged in child labour around the world is estimated to be of more than 200 million and more than half of those are aged 5-17, and are involved in some sort of hazardous work.

Does the number scares you? How hard it is think of their situation, the children’s who should happily spend their childhood with good education and health, are engaged in works that exploits them mentally and physically pushing them into the widening circle of Poverty !

In past few decades it has been raised as a global issue and is prohibited worldwide. However it is practiced in most of the corners where people are helpless and has no choice but to work.

Government of different countries takes several steps to remove child labour from their respective countries. However, We also hold some duty as a part of the society. Our small steps can contribute a lot to help abolishing child labour.

Following are some easy steps which one can follow in their day to day lives and can do good to those children’s:

1) Spread Awareness : Not everyone is aware about this issue. You can make your family, friends, society and other people aware about it and ask them to not to support such practice.

2) Stop the exploiters : If you ever come across any child labour working in any retail stores or shops or anywhere, question them and give them suggestions to not do the unethical work.

3) Sharing is Caring : You can contribute a part from your income to the NGOs or social groups that are helping children educate. Also you can volunteer in such groups, sharing your free time with children’s would do a lot good to them.

Child slavery is a crime against Humanity. Humanity itself is at stake here. A lot of work still remains,  but I will see the end of child labour in my lifetime.   –   Kailash satyarthi
