Tamil Nadu Minister, SP Velumani, Minister for Municipal Administration, Rural Development and Implementation of Special Programmes, is alleged to have secured contracts to his close aides and family.
The companies in the limelight are KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd, owned by his political aide Rajan Chandrasekar and K. Chandraprakash, and Senthil & Co. owned by his brother, P. Ambarasan, and few more entities with relatives and close aides as promoters.
It is alleged that a whopping 70% contracts were awarded to these companies causing the exchequer 100 crores in loses.
Chandraprakash, MD of KCP Engineers categorically rules out any wrong doing and says the allegations are baseless. He states, we are a 20+ year old infrastructure company, We are a “Makkals’ Company”. The people’s welfare and progress are what drives us to achieve greater heights. We have operations running across 5 states. Over the past 20+ years, we have successfully completed projects to the tune of more than 1000s of crores.
We undertake civil construction projects mainly roads, bridges, and canals for state government authorities such as Public Works Department of Tamil Nadu, National Highways Authority of India, Chennai Municipal Corporation, and Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. Chandraprakash further goes on to say the allegations are politically motivated and have no basis whatsoever.
